Rud DeArmon and his grandson sharing a quiet moment at the Lake of the Ozarks Boat Show.

“On December 5, 1982 I bought an 18 foot, 1939 Century Seamaid triple cockpit from the Wawasee Boat Company in Syracure Indiana for $4000… this boat is one of a kind. There were only a few 18 foot Century Triple Cockpit Seamaid boats built in 1939 and this is the only one left. It won two national prizes. It won the Ed Greve Trophy as the best boat in the 1991 National Century Show in Manistee, Michigan where Century boats were built. The next year it won first place in a boat show at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.”

“The Greve Trophy is indeed the brass ring for Century owners and admirers. ..The Greve Trophy is a silver loving cup presented to the club from the former ownership of the Century Company to acknowledge the most distnguished Century in the show. It is named in honor of Mr Edward Greve, a gentleman who served Century for 48 years in all aspects of production and development….It is a traveling award presented for one year to the owner of the Century entered in the club’s annual show that is judged to be the most original and in the best condition.”

Motor

“A friend of mine knew a guy that had a six cylinder, 103 HP Gray Marine motor that had been sitting in his yard for six years. I went to see it but wouldn’t pay anything for it because I didn’t know its condition so he gave it to me. It turned out to be in good shape except for two stuck intake valves which I got unstuck with many applications of liquid wrench over a period of six months.”
