Rud’s passion for boats started early—at just 17, he built his first one from plans he found in Popular Mechanics. After returning home from WWII, he built his second boat, and from there, his love for crafting and restoring boats never faded. A skilled finish carpenter by trade, he spent his life building, enjoying, and eventually selling boats, always eager to start the next project. When he retired, he built a shop and dedicated himself to restoring antique boats, a hobby that brought him countless friendships with fellow enthusiasts. Rud’s expertise and generosity made him a beloved figure in the antique boating community. He was often invited to give seminars on restoration, a topic he was always eager to share. Whether speaking at events or welcoming friends into his shop for hands-on discussions and show-and-tell sessions, Rud’s love for wooden boats—and the people who shared his passion—shined through in everything he did.
